A very fine and rare, 18k gold, manual wind hunting cased, keyless, two-train, carillon grande sonnerie clockwatch with three hammers and three gongs. Retailed by Hauser Zivy & Cie., Mexico-Paris, "La Esmeralda".

Caliber: 20’’’, gilded brass, straight-line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensated balance with gold poising screws and blued steel hairspring with terminal curve, polished steel index regulator; repeater work on the main plate, under the dial, with silent centrifugal force governor to regulate the speed of the repetition mechanism.

This type of minute-repeating GRANDE SONNERIE clockwatch movement, with carillon on three gongs with three stacked hammers but without Petite Sonnerie, were usually commercialised by ZENITH using the CESAR RACINE patent.

La Esmeralda - Hauser Zivy & Cie.
Hauser Zivy & Cie. was founded by Mr. Hauser and Mr. Zivy, owners of “La Esmeralda”, the most important jewellers in Mexico City during the second half of the 19th century. Besides fine watches the firm was also selling jewellery, musical boxes and works of art. In addition, they were the agents of the silversmith Christofle and the glass manufacturer Baccarat. The building housing “La Esmeralda” at Calle de Francisco I. Madero is still today a historical landmark and considered one of Mexico City’s finest examples for illustrating the influence of European architects at the turn of the 19th century.
