Though I feel much delicacy in receiving in my present position such marks of consideration at the hands of my friends, my embarrassment is greatly relieved in your case by the circumstances under which your present is offered, and by the elevated spirit which your letter breathes; and it is therefore cordially and gratefully accepted.
