Zagato - Zele Cabriolet "Golf" 2000 Electric NO RESERVE - 1976

[ translate ]

The Zagato Zele is an electric microcar produced between 1974 and 1976. The bodywork is in resin. The car has two seats, and was presented in 1972 at the Turin Motor Show to solve the problems of traffic and pollution in the cities. The oil crisis of 1973 aroused interest, and the ‘Zele’ was produced from 1974. At the beginning, 3000 units were planned, with branches in England and in the USA through ELCAR. At the end of the production, less than 500 Zele were produced. The mechanics is from the FIAT 500 (brakes, suspension. . .) but with details taken from ‘supercars’: Dino Ferrari rear lights. A Zele Cabriolet also appeared in the famous film ‘Yuppies 2’. This car, number 133, produced around 1976, is a Cabriolet ‘2000’ version prefixed with ‘Z20’. It is extremely rare and was produced in a few dozen pieces, as it is the most powerful version of the whole series, produced in versions 1000, 1500 and 2000. It has been preserved complete, with the original paint in the original yellow-blue colour combination, seen on many Zagato electric cars, such as the Milanina. This model is also included in the Zagato historical archive, see the website. 24 V electrical system with standard 12 V batteries. It was stored in a garage by a collector who had purchased it in the region of Apulia where it was used for the pedestrian seafront promenade and was recently put back into service. It has just undergone a complete restoration of the electrical parts and has modern batteries that can be charged with a 220 V charger from the normal socket, included in the auction. Seat upholstery is new and compliant with the specifications of the time. The car works and a video showing the car on a private area is available; some mechanical parts are to be restored, such as brakes (from the Fiat 500) and tyres, which are still original (very rare) , marked ZAGATO (see photo) . Some video of the engine, car and driving is available; please, contact Catawiki. Bidders are welcome to view and test the vehicle, which is located in Quarrata 51039 (PT) , Italy. Please contact Catawiki for an appointment. We can arrange transfer of ownership remotely. Affordable shipping throughout Italy, Europe and rest of the world. You can also conveniently pick up your car in person, you get 15 free days at our storage facility. Follow our NO RESERVE auctions on Catawiki.
