Description: Photograph album with approximately 175 silver photographs mounted on black leaves, most captioned in white. 13.5x20 cm (5¼x8"), black cloth covers with string tie.Collections of photographs of a party including Zane Grey across the American Southwest, including the Grand Canyon in Arizona and Zion in Utah, depicting the scenery, camps, and members of the expedition. Lot also includes a letter written by Zane Gray in Tahiti to Marjorie Thomas (signed 'ZG'), with a signed watercolor illustration of Tahiti by William Alister MacDonald. Provenance: from the estate of western artist Marjorie Thomas, who was on this expedition.
Condition Report: Cloth rubbed and faded, images with slight rubbing but generally not faded; small slice to letter not affecting watercolor; overall an excellently preserved album, near fine.
