Zayn al-Din Jurjani (d. AD 1136), Zakhirah-yi Khwrazmshahi, Treasury dedicated to the Kings of Khwarazmshahi, a medical encyclopaedia, Persia, dated AH 877/AD 1472-73

Persian manuscript on paper, 102 leaves, incomplete, 35 lines to the page written in naskhi script in black ink, significant sentences and words picked out in red, chapter headings written in large thuluth script in black, remargined throughout, probably in the late 18th/early 19th Century, waterstaining affecting text, late beige morocco, covers with stamped central medallions incorporating stylised vegetal and floral motifs, worn, stained, spine repaired
303 x 210 mm.

The text was composed at some point before AD 1110 or 1111, and is generally held to be the first major medical work written in Persian, drawing on the medical literature of the period, and combining the knowledge in one work for convenience. It consists of ten books. There are twelve volumes in the Wellcome Library (see F. Keshavarz, A Descriptive and Analytical Catalogue of Persian Manuscripts in the Library of the Wellcome Institute for the History of Medicine, London 1986, pp. 149-154); and also C. Rieu, Catalogue of the Persian Manuscripts in the British Museum, 1966 (repr.), pp. 466-468.

Other manuscripts of this work were sold at Sotheby's, Arts of the Islamic World, 20th April 2016, lots 8 and 9, 26th April 2017, lots 42 and 45.

The date AH 877 appears at the end of Book Six. There is a 15th century seal impression of a certain Hasan ibn 'Ali al-Khosh-mardan.
