Artist: ZVI BERGMANN (1918-2006)Size: 24 1/2 x 36 1/4 in./62 x 92 cmCondition: B+/ Slight stains.Printer: Linoleum printing by BergmannReference: Key Words: Modern; Israel; Propaganda; Jewish InterestZe'ev Jabotinsky / Return of Israel. ca. 1948.A contemplative portrait of the Revisionist Zionist Leader, Ze'ev Jabotinsky, appears in this sparse design. Below, lines from Jabotinsky's poetry are included: the verse opening with "Chad-Ness" from "HaNeder" ("The Vow"), and the last verse from "Smol HaYarden" ("The Left Bank of the Jordan River"). The first is a poetic oath written for the Zionist youth movement, Betar, which proclaims that no "redness" would be added to the blue and white of the Zionist flag. The second poem was rewritten as a song, which became an anthem for the Betar movement. The song endorses the idea of the Jewish state existing on both sides of the Jordan River; each stanza ends with this line: "Two Banks has the Jordan—This is ours, and that is as well." Lastly, a quote from Colonel M. F. Scott, commander of Regiment 40 ("Eretz Israel Regiment" of the Jewish Legion) appears: "England... took a page out of the bible on which appears the earliest prophecy... and we declared the guarantee of England. The nation cannot cancel this signature."Price: $1080(starting bid + 20% buyer’s premium)Want this item?Place an online bid, or CALL US NOW for this special price212-787-4000Until March 3 only!
