Description
This is a classic horizontal splash-colour landscape by Zhang Daqian, preserved in its original mounting. The mountain mass is formed by splashed ink and mineral colours, blending azurite blue and malachite green. The flowing pigments and deep ink build misty cloud-wrapped peaks. In the lower left lies a tranquil lake with a small boat carrying two scholars. Red blossom trees and shrubs decorate the near bank. Distant houses perch on hilltops, half-hidden by haze. Merging traditional brushwork with innovative splash-colour technique, the painting features magnificent, dreamlike colours and ethereal atmosphere. It is a representative work of Zhang Daqian’s late splash-colour style.
