Zoomorphic mask Ogbodo Enyi Izi culture, Nigeria First half of the 20th century Wood, plant fibres and pigments Height: 46,5 - Length: 26 cm - Thickness: 31. 5 cm (old crack) Zoomorphic wooden crest mask depicting an animal with a pair of long teeth and accompanied on the top by an anthropomorphic figure called Ntekpé. It is entirely pigmented with black and white, colours arranged geometrically. This mask represents the spirituality of the elephant. Indeed, Ogbodo means "spirit" while Enyi refers to the large mammal. The two lower protuberances would refer to its tusks. These dance masks were worn as a crest on the top of the head and served as a social mediator.
