Original etching performed on copper matrix; in the plate, under the figured part, an indication of the artists dedication to the Venetian senator Giovanni Bragadin by Francesco Antonio Canal. The transposition on the plate, performed with skilful and fine hatching, is the responsibility of Gianantonio or Giovanni Zuliani, Italian artists who are members of a famous family of Venetian engravers active in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. The work is a valuable and pleasant Arcadian landscape, with the effect of rising or setting sun, animated by a festive dance observed by a couple of aristocrats and other figures. The Arcadian landscape enjoyed considerable success with the Venetian engravers and printers of the eighteenth century, thanks to the influence of painters such as Marco Ricci, Zais and Zuccarelli.
