Auguste Mousson\r

A very rare French 1925-1930 art deco table lamp in bronze holding a large shade in clear frosted molded-pressed glass by Verreries des Hanots. During the interbellum the large glass company Holophane made pressed glass lamp shades with their brand Verreries des Hanots and glass vases tableware with the brand Verlys. The lamp is made by Auguste Mousson. Mousson was a small bronzier in Paris. Old records from the 20s taught me that just after the first world war A. Mousson 'manufacture de bronzes d'art de tous styles pour ameublement' was located at 23-25 rue des Vignoles. Two streets south from the famous père Lachaise cemetery. In the 30s he moved his workshop some blocks south to 41-43 rue de Buzenval. I visited the place to ask if they had some forgotten boxes with archives in their cellar or attic. But no luck. It sometimes works though and I run into great-grandchildren of old craftsmen. . . Anyway. Mousson made this lamp around 1925-1930. It is 53,7 cm high and the bowl has a diameter of 21 cm. Both base and shade show stylized flowers and fruits contained in angular blocks. A beautiful match of base and shade. This rare model Hanots bowl is never signed yet represented in the old Holophane-Hanots product catalog. The base has the A. Mousson signature carved in the bronze. Originally this base was silver plated. The thin silver coating is almost completely gone. Only small traces of it still remained. The lamp is in good condition. I cleaned and rewired it. For the USA Canada or Japan it holds an American candelabra base socket and US 2-prong plug. For European countries I will place a E14 socket. The catalogs are of course no part of this sale. \r
