British, 1779. An engraving of An Exact Prospect of Charlestown, the Metropolis of the Province of South Carolina engraved for the London Magazine. This is the second edition of the engraving by William Henry Toms after Bishop Roberts painting of 1739. The view includes ships in flying the British flag, fishermen in the foreground and various homes, churches, and forts in the background, framed. 6.5 x 19.75 in. (sight), 8.25 x 21.25 (frame).
Condition Report: Vertical and diagonal creases, separation at right of center with adhesive residue, warping to sheet, some discoloration and light foxing. Small areas of loss around edges. Toning and spots of foxing visible on verso. Repair with tape to left most vertical crease.
