Up for auction is a beautifully preserved c.1901 Edison Standard Cylinder Phonograph (Model A "Square Top"), serial number 48779S, manufactured by the National Phonograph Co. of Orange, New Jersey. This highly authentic 125-year-old specimen features a rich quarter-sawn oak cabinet with a crisp, intact golden "Edison" script decal and includes its matching arched dome dust cover with the original turned wood handle. Mechanically, the black-enameled bedplate showcases vibrant gold pin-striping, the brass patent plate is fully legible, and the internal single-spring motor assembly and gear train are exceptionally clean and free of rust. Outfitted with an upgraded Edison Model C reproducer featuring its signature "fishtail" lead tracking weight and a polished sapphire stylus, this machine is structurally excellent and offers high functional potential, though it is being offered without a winding crank or horn. Case measures 13 x 9.5 inches.
