c1980 Loni Kreuder German Bronze Sculptures of Children

A really elegant modernist bronze pair of sculptures of a boy and a girl seated on animal statues, such as you find in public children areas, by the World famous German artist Loni Kreuder.
Influenced heavily by both Auguste Rodin and Henry Moore, the simplicity of the lines makes her work so valued. The boy is sitting on a small elephant, with his arms folded, as if waiting the return of a parent. The girl is sitting on another elephant and she is holding a rag doll, in her arm. The condition is perfect.
Loni Kreuder was born in Viersen, Germany, in 1940 and based in Glabbach since 1974. Best known for her large statues of people, especially children, in public spaces, she also produces smaller versions for collectors of her work. The daughter of a painter, she showed her artistic talent at an early age, but preferred the representational value of sculpture. In the early 1960s she began to sculpt animals, later progressing under the supervision of Hermann Konig and Professor Isemann at the Dusseldorf Art Academy.
Since the early 1980s her sculptures have been appearing in public spaces in Germany and the Netherlands. In the last few years her work has been gradually become more abstract and this sculpture is a fine example of her earlier style. In her words: “In my sculptures, man will always be the subject, because in our computer controlled, multicultural society, we must not not lose our identity”.
The works of Loni Kreuder have a strong body language, reduced to the essentials. Cast in bronze, hard and yet endlessly soft. Public contracts and exhibitions at home and abroad have made Loni Kreuder known far beyond the borders of her hometown. The statue was originally purchased from the Peter Breughel Art Gallery, in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
