FUNCTION: For the Yoruba people, the ade crown is the symbol of royal authority, when Ade is placed on the head of the Oba, it connects with its deceased royal ancestors, its face is not to be seen and is thus hidden by a curtain of beads. POPULATION: Yoruba people from Nigeria. MATERIALS: base made of vegetable fibre, canvas and leather entirely covered with glass beads. SIZE: 65 cm. STATE OF PRESERVATION: beads worn by age, without any damage nor restorations. DESCRIPTION: With its conical shape, the crown features many birds with bright colours on the sides and symbols such as the representation of ancestors, the curtain of very long beads circles the base entirely.
