Echizen ceramics is the name for Japanese ceramic products made mainly in the (old) province of Echizen - now Fukui Prefecture. Echizen is one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns, the "Rokkoyō". Wabi-Sabi is a Japanese concept of aesthetics of the perception of beauty and was introduced by the Japanese tea master and Zen monk Sen no Rikyū in the 16th century. It stands for an aesthetic of the imperfect, distinguished by asymmetry, roughness, irregularity, and simplicity.
