Descended through a Cambridge, MA family, purchased many years ago from McNaught Fine Art, Santa Cruz, CA
From the estate of Alan Varteresian, Boston, MA
Sir Godfrey Kneller was court painter to Queen Anne and a favored portraitist of the British aristocracy. This painting corresponds to his large portrait of the countess Berkeley in the National Portrait Gallery in London.
