foodcontainer - Lacquered wood - Spectacular lacquered bento in 5 parts, decorated with Shi-shi & Botan flowers in high relief - Japan - Meiji period (1868-1912)

Spectacular lacquered foodcontainer (bento) in 5 parts with a continuous vertical lacquerware scenes in high relief makie-é lacquer on each side. Two of them depicting a expressive Shi-shi lion against a background with Botan Peony flowers. The other two sides lacquered with Botan peony flowers and tree. Both lids also have different but corresponding lacquerware with nice details. The lids are slightly lightly bended. Some scattered small traces of age and use. Please see pictures. The inside executed in red lacquer and each part with a goldleaf lacquered top rim. In original box - marked: Meiji 37 (1904) .
