large Italian art medal honoring Verona and its patron saint. One side shows Saint Zeno enthroned in bishop's vestments, holding a crozier with a fish hanging from it (his traditional attribute). Around him are Verona landmarks: a Roman arch, a Gothic spire of the Scaliger Tombs, and the waves of the Adige river. The inscription reads "D. ZENO VERONAE PATRONVS". The other side, inscribed "COMMVNITAS VERONENSIS", shows mounted medieval knights carrying cross-emblazoned shields and banners, with the Carroccio (the commune's war cart) behind them. Signed Costantini, with a maker's mark at the edge (apparently S. Johnson, Milan). Struck in silver-colored metal; the metal has not been tested.
Condition: Very good. High relief, light toning and minor spotting.
