Tibetan ritual table ("choktse" or "shöchok") , used by Tibetan monks who sat behind the table in a cross-legged lotus position on a cushioned mattress and who read aloud religious texts or performed rituals during monastic ceremonies. Sometimes they were also used as a table for ritual meals in the central cloister hall. On the front, the furniture is decorated with dragon motifs ("Chhepu, the protector) in the traditional Tibetan gesso lacquer technique. The case weighs about 20 kg.
