DESCRIPTION
Three Burmese statues representing monks or worshipers, disciples of Buddha, these statues were offered by the faithful to pay homage to him, in lacquered wood and gilded with gold leaf.
They were placed near the statue of Buddha in temples or monasteries.
A complete set could include up to 7 statuettes representing the most important disciples who received their teaching from Buddha himself and were venerated in Burma.
Depending on the wealth of the donors, they could give a single statue or several.
We find the name of the donor written on each statue. Two of the statues are pairs.
Circa first half of the 20th century, Bagan region.
17. 5 cms in height, 8. 5 cms in width, 10. 5 cms in depth.
Old and decorative objects.
