Ordre de payer une dépense de 18 livres, 5 chelins et 3 deniers par John Reid à William Martin par une résolution de la Cour de justice des sessions spéciales à partir de fonds de la police. James McGill (1744-1813), marchand de fourrures, homme d'affaires et philanthrope, fondateur de l'Université McGill. Il reçut sa première charge publique, celle de Juge de paix, en 1776. On renouvela son mandat périodiquement, et c'est ainsi qu'il fut initié au gouvernement de Montréal, une fonction réservée aux juges de paix jusqu'en 1833. C est probablement dans ce contexte qu'il s est occupé à Montréal du paiement qui fait l'objet du présent document. En 1810, il deviendra colonel commandant du 1er bataillon de milice de la Ville de Montréal. John Richardson (c.1754-1831), négociant et homme politique, fonctionnaire et juge de paix. Associé de la nouvelle Compagnie du Nord-Ouest. L'un des fondateurs de la Banque de Montréal. Il fut contre le Parti Patriote au parlement du Bas-Canada. 1 sheet in-8 recto verso. Order to pay an expense of 18 pounds, 5 chels and 3 denier by John Reid to William Martin by a resolution of the Court of Justice special sessions from police funds. James McGill (1744-1813), fur trader, businessman and philanthropist, founder of McGill University. He received his first public office, that of Justice of the Peace, in 1776. His mandate was renewed periodically, and so he was introduced to the Government of Montreal, a function reserved for justices of the peace until 1833. It is probably in this context that he has dealt in Montreal with the payment that is the subject of this document. In 1810, he became colonel commander of the 1st militia battalion of the City of Montreal. John Richardson (c.1754-1831), merchant and politician, civil servant and justice of the peace. Partner of the new North West Company. One of the founders of the Bank of Montreal. He was against the Patriot Party in the Parliament of Lower Canada.
