Transfer lithograph in black on ivory laid paper. Printed on fine laid paper with watermark O.W.P. & A.C.L . One of 51 copies printed by Goulding in 1903. The stone was then erased. Way states that only 15 life time impressions were made from this stone. She was Whistler s sister-in-law and was made his ward and executrix at her sister Beatrix s death in 1896. She acted as Whistler s companion, model, secretary and housekeeper until his death. She also posed for a number of drawings, lithographs and paintings. Whistler nicknamed her "Major". Whistler himself was the "General". She inherited Whistler's estate in 1903. It was she who gifted and bequeathed the Whistler Estate to the University of Glasgow.It was she who gifted and bequeathed the Whistler Estate to the University of Glasgow. Apart from the collection bequeathed to her by JW, she continued to collect his letters and literature about JW, bought prints by him to round off her unique collection, and arranged for the printing of limited editions of some of his rarer etchings and lithographs before they were cancelled. It is a unique and exciting collection, a treasure house of art, and encyclopaedia of information.
