In 1578, he published an atlas Speculum Orbis Terrarum which was re-published by his son, Cornelius, in 1593.- Cornelius map of South America deviates from his father s map in as much as the title is no longer within the map as well as omitting two insets of smaller maps; some of the decorative elements have been omitted as well.- Maps both by father and son are very hard to come by as Speculum did not prove to be such a success as Ortelius atlases and the publication was very small.
