Antique Russian icon, “Mother of God nonburnable thorn bush’ from the 19th century. Hand-painted with egg tempera colours on a wooden panel with chalk background. Typical method of icon production in the 18th and 19th century in the Tsarist period of Russia. The painting is quite detailed and masterfully painted. Perfectly matched colour contrasts and accomplished shading. The icon and the saints are labelled. The inscriptions are easy to read. The icon is in good condition with signs of wear commensurate with age (see photos) . The painting has very fine and authentic craquelure. The icon was probably created around 1880 in central Russia.
