2 Sassanian Stone Stamp Seals - Profile Faces

**First Time At Auction**

Near East, Sassanian Empire, ca. 500 CE. A pair of cloudy quartz stamp seals of near identical form, with a round, flat face incised with a motif of a human head in profile and a roughly conical body for gripping. Neither is pierced for suspension. The faces are cleanshaven, with long, curly hair and elaborate clothing. Letters are incised around the faces. Seals bearing animals or personal designs are one of the most enduring symbols of the Sassanian Empire, which was a prominent and influential kingdom that had great influence throughout the Old World after the fall of Rome. Size of one (they are very similar in size): 1.05" W x 0.9" H (2.7 cm x 2.3 cm)

Provenance: ex-private New Jersey, USA collection, acquired at auction
