A Mercedes-Benz 220 SEb Convertible is offered in excellent condition. The vehicle was delivered new to EI Salvador and only found its way back to Germany in 1990. The ownership history in EI Salvador is unfortunately no longer traceable, but is well documented in Germany. The vehicle is only under its second owner in this country. The mileage is 6,300 km, but it is at least 106,300 km, as the vehicle was imported into Germany with a displayed 89,000 km. The current owner has demonstrably invested more than €38,000 in the convertible during the time the vehicle was in his possession. A report from 2017 gives the Mercedes the condition grade two and shows a replacement value of €125,000. The W 111 series from Mercedes is largely known for its large tail fin, but only the saloons are equipped with larger fins. The copies of the coupes and convertibles are much lower and clearly rounded. All body shapes have in common that they are magnificent and representative. The more filigree shape of the two-door makes it even more elegant than the sedan, which was expensive: For them, four times as many parts were made by hand, making them nearly twice as expensive as the sedan. The 220 SEb Convertible is powered by a 2. 2-litre six-cylinder petrol engine with mechanical fuel injection, internally called the M 127 V. The engine delivers 120 hp at 4800 rpm and provides a maximum torque of 189 Nm at 3900 rpm. Shifting is done with a 4-speed centre shift. All wheels are individually suspended; At the front, a double wishbone axle takes over the wheel guidance, while on the rear axle, a single-joint pendulum axle does its job. Braking is carried out on the front axle with disc brakes and at the rear with brake drums; the two-door W111s were the first Mercedes cars with standard disc brakes on the front axle. The driver is supported during braking by means of a vacuum brake booster. The body of the vehicle is painted black uni (code 040 on the data card) and in combination with the red leather interior, this is one of the absolute classics of automobile colour design. Since the sun of EI Salvador is gracious to the sheet metal, but harmful to the paint, the vehicle was repainted in the course of its existence in the original colour. The quality of the paint meets that of condition grade 2. Based on the owner's knowledge, the vehicle has suffered only minor damage from careless cyclists and should be accident-free apart from that. The damage caused by the cyclist was repaired by a specialist company. The chrome trim is essential for the effect of a W111 Convertible. Especially with black paint, the chrome parts are enormously in focus due to the high contrast, which is why they have received a lot of attention from the owner. All chrome parts that had even slight defects, including all bumpers, were re-chromed for over 7000 euro. The 220 SEb Convertible has steel rims with the dimension 5 1 /2 JK x 13 with overhauled wheel trims in the body colour with chrome decorations. The rims are fitted with Michelin tyres in the original format 7,25-13. The tyres date from 2017 and have only covered a distance of approx. 6,000 km. The soft top is black on the outside and cream on the inside and is in mint condition. Since then, however, the vehicle has always driven and stood with the top open, so that there are hardly any traces of use. Matching the rest of the interior, the tarpaulin is made of red leather according to original specifications and has only recently been replaced. The interior of the W111 Convertible is an extremely spacious and pleasant place for four people. The fact that the vehicle is a full-fledged four-seater is due to the fact that the convertible is based on the unabridged chassis of the sedan with an identical wheelbase. The interior has also been extensively worked on by the current owner. The seat covers and the tarpaulin were re-upholstered with original Mercedes leather. All wooden parts have been carefully refurbished. The clock and speedometer were also overhauled. After thorough refurbishment, the interior shines again in the splendour of old times. The Becker Mexico radio was an extra ex works and is functional. Due to the delivery to EI Salvador, the rare air conditioning system "Kühlmeister" is also installed. The system is complete and basically ready for commissioning, but the intended refrigerant is no longer permitted. Apart from that, everything in the interior is functional. The mechanics are also in good condition. It is worth mentioning that the engine is an original replacement unit from Mercedes-Benz, the time of installation of which is unfortunately unknown. The engine runs smoothly and without noise. Apart from slight oil drips, no leaks are known. Last summer, the valve stem seals were changed and an oil service was carried out. Due to the poor road conditions in the country of delivery, the vehicle has an oil bath air filter as a factory extra. The chassis and the rest of the powertrain are in good shape, just like the engine. The W111 successfully completed the main inspection last year in August without any defects. No indications of any defects were noticed. Since the vehicle has always been in classic car specialist companies for maintenance, it cannot be assumed that defects have remained undetected. This W 111 Convertible is a cherished and well-kept vehicle that has only been maintained and restored by top experts for more than €38,000 in the last six years. With a classic colour combination, which is particularly evident in the excellently renovated chrome parts, this vehicle is an absolute feast for the eyes. The condition "two" attested by a short valuation, from which a replacement value of €125,000 results, makes this 220 SEb Convertible a driving work of art and an investment in one.
