Scuola di Jacopo Bassano (XVI secolo) - Autunno

[ translate ]

\Artist: Scuola di Jacopo Bassano (XVI secolo)
Technique: Oil on canvas\Signature: Not signed\Dimensions: 94_116_5_cm
Antique painting from the 16th century, oil on canvas, depicting the autumn. The canvas refers to the circle of the large and fruitful workshop founded by Jacopo Da Ponte in the city of Bassano. In the workshop, starting from the models of the forefather, his sons Francesco and Leandro and their collaborators replicated and reworked pastoral and allegorical subjects intended for decoration. In this case there are at least three series dedicated to this subject, produced by the Bassano workshop in the 1570s. The oldest is probably the one in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, where “Estate” and “Autunno” are signed by Jacopo Bassano, while “Primavera” and “Inverno” are known to us thanks to replicas by Francesco kept in the same museum. These series were extraordinarily successful and several replicas were made by the workshop, including the series in the Castello Sforzesco in Milan and the Galleria Spinola in Genoa, as well as another series, but without “Estate”, in the Galleria Borghese in Rome. The excellent quality of execution and the smooth, easy brushwork of our work point to an artist who was certainly familiar with the master’s work. From the point of view of painting technique, we can see passages and layers that indicate a more than likely creation in the workshop, and we cannot exclude the idea that it may have been Francesco himself. Also the examination of the craquelure, compatible with the period of activity, pushes the search towards a painter operating in that workshop. It is in overall fairly good condition, considering its age. There are old scattered restorations and a little peeling and cracking of the surface. There are no conservation issues and the original canvas is supported by old relining that does not seem to require restoration. Fine craquelure consistent with the painting’s age. It looks like the stretcher was replaced when the painting was relined. Framed in a beautiful 19th century frame, which shows widespread repairs and defects. The frame decorations are also quite fragile and, although we will do our best to pack them with the maximum protection, given their fragility, we would like to point out that some pieces could detach or be damaged during transport. Painting dimensions: 68 x 96 cm. Frame dimensions: 94 x 116 cm. With photographic certificate of authenticity, in accordance with the current law. Shipping via insured express courier, packaged with the utmost care.
