A George II sterling silver teapot, London 1759 by William Grundy Of inverted baluster form upon a domed circular foot with applied edge. The two-section cast curved shell capped spout enwrapped with flower heads and leaves leading to a moulded rocaille work and acanthus scroll junction. The mahogany C scroll handle pinned to an acanthus scroll junction with chased rocaille work surround. The body with spiral fluting separated by embossed roses with embossed leafy stems heighted with flat chased leaves, an asymmetrical vacant rocaille C scroll cartouche to one side. The domed hinged lid surmounted by a detachable cast and chased pineapple finial above a leafy calyx, the lid with similar embossed decoration. Fully marked underneath and with lion passant only to the lid. Length – 25 cm / 10 inches Weight – 695 grams/ 22.34 ozt
