Folk Art 1838 American Sampler in Period Frame
This delightful American folk art embroidery or cross-stitch needlepoint work is signed by its maker, Susanna Longcake, and dated September 5th, 1838. It is bordered by stylized plants, and includes flowering trees and plants, along with a passage from a hymn by Isaac Watts. The hymn, written in 1709, is entitled "Love To The Creatures Is Dangerous". In a period, walnut-veneered wooden frame, the sampler measures 26" high and 23" wide.
