Italian school, 18th century
Anatomical study of a man, pen and brown ink, brown wash, on laid paper, 29,3 x 13,2 cm, inscribed “diu S. Sius. dal Sole.” in pen and brown ink on the reverse, mounted, unframed, (Sch)
Provenance:
Private property, Belgium.
The present drawing may have been executed after an engraving of an anatomical textbook. Comparable depictions can be found in the work of Antonio Cattani, who made engravings in large formats after wax models by Ercole Lelli (1702–1766). The drawing may have been produced directly after one of Lelli’s anatomical models which were exhibited in Bologna at that time.
