Rare Flegel "Redifor Spooler"
Attached to a Redifor, Warren, O casting reel, this invention of Benjamin F. Flegel was patented on 8/24/15 (#1151349), providing level-wind mechanism for non-level winding casting reels. A photo of this particular device appears on page 151 of Antique Fishing Reels - 2nd Edition by Steve Vernon. Using a pulley as a line guide, riding on an endless-groove shaft, the device used friction from the line to spin the pulley along the gear, laying the line evenly across the spool arbor, folding down and out of the way during a cast.
