A ham playing Hamlet holds a gal hostage on this mag's cover — maybe not the scariest scenario by pre-Code standards, but kiddie fare was ACG's stock in trade. ACG's editorial policy discouraged depictions of extreme violence, providing a safe space for kids who blanched at the big-boy stuff put out by the likes of EC, Harvey, Gillmor and Superior.
