Y A PAIR OF SIMULATED TORTOISESHELL FRAMED MIRRORS20TH CENTURY IN THE LATE 17TH CENTURY MANNER each 24cm high, 29cm wide Provenance: The Simon Neal Collection Condition Report: Both mirrors with marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some old splits and chips to frames. Both frames with splits, lifting, bubbling to tortoiseshell veneers. The plates are in distressed condition with significant depletion, losses and bloom. Later taper applied to backs. One mirror with a few isolated worm holes to the reverse. Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition. The mirrors are of 20th century manufacture but in 17th century style. They bear many techniques to simulate greated age, including; a dark wash to the back, significantly depleted mirror plates, and small flecks of dark paint to the simulated tortoiseshell.
