NELSON'S FUNERAL

A black ostrich feather pinned to a piece of marbled card, captioned in ink on the verso "This relict of Lord Nelson's Funeral Car was presented by Hon. & Rev. Dr. Wellesley D.D., Camelford House, January 1806", [1806]; together with an engraved print of the Funeral Car with a detail of the bullet that killed Nelson, sold as an association item (3)

A black ostrich feather pinned to a piece of marbled card, captioned in ink on the verso "This relict of Lord Nelson's Funeral Car was presented by Hon. & Rev. Dr. Wellesley D.D., Camelford House, January 1806", loose within an envelope folded from a black-edged sheet of paper, the address panel in brown ink "London February Four 1806. To Mrs Lawrence/Thos. H. Hall Esq./Froston [?Foston]/Derby" beneath which is signature of sender "William Frederick" (Duke of Gloucester, 1776-1834), with the red postal stamp ("Free. Feb. 4 1806"), the addressee details repeated on fold, black wax seal with prince's Royal arms (split), a couple of tears, the envelope when closed 75 x 125mm, [1806]; together with an engraved print of the Funeral Car with a detail of the bullet that killed Nelson, sold as an association item (3)

A relic from the Funeral Car on which the body of Admiral Nelson was conveyed from the Admiralty to St. Paul's Cathedral for internment on 9th January, 1806. The Car was adorned with vast plumes of black ostrich feathers.
