Greek Hellenistic Glass Bowl Etched Wheel Marks
Greek, late Hellenistic to early Roman Imperial Period, ca. 1st century BCE to 1st century CE. A wonderful mold-formed bowl fashioned from translucent glass of champagne gold hues. The form is comprised of rounded walls rising to a rounded lip, and a smooth rounded base. Furthermore, the vessel is attractively embellished with a pair of double wheel-cut striations running around the interior of the upper walls. A very special example perhaps intended to resemble rock crystal given its hue and translucency! Size: 5.875" in diameter x 2.75" H (14.9 cm x 7 cm)
A similar example was published in "Solid Liquid: Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Islamic Glass." Fortuna Fine Arts, Ltd., New York, 1999, p. 43, fig. 53.
