Full free frank, measuring 8.5 x 6.75 unfolded with a central panel of 4.5 x 3, addressed by Adams to "Joseph Hopkinson Esqr., Judge of the U.S. District Court, Philadelphia Pennsylvania," and franked in the upper right corner, "J. Q. Adams." In very good condition, with paper loss at fold intersections, and light overall staining. Adams appointed Hopkinson to a seat on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania in 1828; his 1833 opinion in Wheaton v. Peters established the foundations of modern American copyright law.
