1st-2nd century AD. A dynamic bronze statue of a young satyr wearing an animal skin around the waist and an ivy wreath to the head; right leg bent, left leg extended in a jumping posture, arms raised above the head to support an architectural element with acanthus leaf and flower to each side. 692 grams total, 17.5cm including stand (7"). Formerly in a private collection, acquired in the 1960s on the London art market; previously with Pierre Bergé & Associés, Archéologie, Paris, 16 May 2018, lot 256 (15,000-18,000 euros); accompanied by copies of the relevant Pierre Bergé catalogue pages; this lot has been checked against the Interpol Database of stolen works of art and is accompanied by AIAD certificate number no.10844-178713.
