Four Ceiling Lights from Le Bon Marché, Paris
Four French Art Deco Ceiling Lights from Le Bon Marché, Paris
circa 1923
gilt bronze, molded glass, fabric
27 ¼ in. (69.2 cm) drop each
14 in. (35.6 cm) diameter of each shade
Condition Report:
Overall in good condition. The gilt bronze mounts present with scattered surface scratches, abrasions and small indentations, as well as areas of discolorations, traces of oxidation, pitting and occasional verdigris spots throughout consistent with age and the evolution of the medium. The holophane glass shades are in well-preserved condition with scattered scratches, small flecks and shallow clamshell chips particularly concentrated to the raised ridges of the design. One shade presents with a crack running from the upper rim along the circumference of the glass measuring approximately 12 inches wide, which appears to have been sensitively stabilized at some point in the history of the piece. Each light is offered together with a fabric sleeve in very good condition with light surface soiling. Sotheby's does not guarantee electrical components and suggests having all wiring inspected by a licensed electrician.
