PIETRO ROTARI (Verona, 1707 - St. Petersburg, 1762) a. Portrait...
PIETRO ROTARI (Verona, 1707 - St. Petersburg, 1762) a. Portrait of a girl with pearls - b. Portrait of a sleeping girl. Couple of pastels Pastel on paper, cm. 50x40. Framed and glass The painting is accompanied by an expertise by Prof. Ferdinando Arisi. The beautiful couple of pastels proposed here highlights the European taste assimilated by Rotari during his long traveling career. In these two works is evident the aesthetic debt towards Jean-Etienne Liotard: it is sufficient to compare them with the Belle liseuse today at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, of which the Rotari was able to grasp the compositional and chromatic refinement translating these qualities in a more intimate atmosphere.
