CDV of John Wilkes Booth ("Wanted" Poster Shot)
Classic carte-de-visite (CDV) photo of the infamous actor and assassin, John Wilkes Booth. This particular pose was reproduced on wanted posters issued by the War Department during the manhunt for Lincoln’s killer. Of note is the delightful backmark on the reverse of this carte, which presents a menu of various filler items for period photo albums, such as photos of “foreign birds.” CDV is in very good condition. A fine example of the many Booth photos that were produced in the wake of one of the most consequential moments in American history.
[Civil War, Union, Confederate, Antique Photography, Daguerreotype, Ambrotype, Tintype, CDV, Abraham Lincoln, Abolition, Slavery]
