Chinese Mutton Fat Jade Carved Lidded Vessel, Ashkenazie Provenance A8WAJ
Description: Chinese white mutton fat jade lidded vessel with five sons of the Tou family carved in high relief on the body. An additional figure of a boy is on the cover. Seventeen loose rings in a chain connect the lid to one of the figures on the body. Dragon head handles support two loose rings on the sides.
Measurements: 9 3/4" high; weight: 1,271 grams (2 lbs. 12 3/4 oz.)
Condition: Very good condition with only a few minor imperfections, including a tiny nick that can be felt on one boy s clothing and a tiny imperfection on the rim.
Provenance: From the estate of a Japanese American physician in Tucson, Arizona. Purchased in 1975 from Ashkenazie in San Francisco for $65,000. Illustrated in Ashkenazie & Company s 1975 catalogue, item 17. The original appraisal/receipt letter from Ashkenazie is included (see image).
