[ translate ]

Qianlong

Qianlong
The flattened baluster vessel with billowing clouds, the waisted neck climbed by a large scaly dragon and a chilong clambering above craggy rocks around the base, the cover surmounted by a rope-twist finial, the semi-translucent stone of pale green tone with frost-white inclusions, wood stand.
17cm (6 3/4in) high. (3).

Please note this Lot is to be sold at No Reserve. 本拍品不設底價

清乾隆 青白玉雕蒼龍教子蓋瓶

The motif of an adult and young dragon seems to have been favoured by the Qianlong emperor and has been interpreted as conveying the message of the father teaching his son the ways of life, and within the Imperial family, that of the emperor giving lessons to the prince.

Compare with a white jade vase and cover, Qing dynasty, in the Qing Court Collection, carved with adult and young dragons pursuing the flaming pearl, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum: Jadeware II, Beijing, 2008, pl.21. See also another related jade 'dragon' vase and cover, Qianlong, illustrated by R.Kleiner, Chinese Jade from the Collection of Alan and Simone Hartman, Hong Kong, 1996, p.191, no.147.

See also a related pale green jade 'dragons' vase and cover, Qianlong, which was sold at Bonhams London, 17 May 2018, lot 157.
