Antique Toyokuni III Original Woodblock Print Ukiyo-e
Genuine Antique circa 1851-1853 Ukiyo-e Japanese woodblock print by Utagawa Kunisada or Toyokuni III. The publisher is Sano-ya Kihei, who was a very prominent publisher around this time. The scene shows two women out for a dusk or nighttime stroll, one holding a pipe and the other playing with some fireflies with her fan. The print has a stunning gradation effect in the background, going from blue to the paper color to black on the top. Circa: 1851-1853. No date seal, but the two censor seals were only used in this period of three years.Paper/Image Size: 14.5x10 inches

Condition Report: Good Estate Find Condition. Some signs of ageing on the paper, shown in some discoloration, creasing, and a small area of bug exposure. The print seems to have been glued down to a backing paper in small areas at the top. There is a small area of water damage towards the bottom.
