An ivory cane handle and four manju, Meiji period, late 19th century

Each carved in high and low relief, the cane with apes playing with turtles; the manju variously depicting Chokaro Sennin, the horse on reverse, a samurai reading a handscroll (makimono), the demon slayer Shoki with an oni (demon), and a further oni beside a large kettle
13.5 cm. (5.3/8 in.) high (the cane)
4 cm. (1.5/8 in.) diam. (the first manju)
4 cm. (1.5/8 in.) diam. (the second manju)
4.2 cm. (1.5/8 in.) diam. (the third manju)
4.5 cm. diam. (the fourth manju)

Condition Report:
There is a 5 cm. long age crack running from the base.

This small group is believed to have been assembled by Mary, Duchess of Hamilton (1854–1934);
Thence by descent.
