A Set of eight Regency ebonised and parcel gilt dining chairs, circa 1820, attributed to Gillows, Edwards' Library pattern, to include a pair of armchairs, The design of this chair is illustrated and described in Susan E. Stuart, Gillows of Lancaster & London 1730-1840, Antique Collectors Club, Vol. I page 216-218 Please note, the estimate for this lot should be £1,000-1,500 and not as originally listed in the catalogue. Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions, consistent with age and use, Some chips and losses, old splits and cracks, The surface overall is flaking off, revealing the underlying timber, this is especially to areas such as the bar backs, the fronts of the seats are also worn through, the caning appears to all be replacements and is intact overall, these probably should have a squab cushion each.There are some old woodworm holesOne 'ear' has split form one upright, this is detached but present with the lot, The gilding appears to have been refreshed throughoutOne armchair appears to have had some restoration to the surface overall and is more varnished than the remainder of the set.The finish is simulated rosewood rather than ebonisedPlease refer to additional images for visual reference to condition Condition Report Disclaimer
