ANCIENT ROMAN GOLD COIN AUREUS 2ND CENTURY AC
An ancient Roman gold coin Aureus - Faustina Mother, the reign of Antoninus Pius, 138 to 161. The obverse features a female bust with elaborate hair facing right, the description is DIVA FAUSTINA (Divine Faustine). On the reverse, there is Fortuna standing left, holding patera in right hand, long rudder in left, the description is AUGUSTA. Note: Mother Faustina, daughter of Rupilia Faustina, the sister of Hadrian, Antoninus Pius married between 110 and 115 and had at least two children: Marcus Antonius Galerius, a boy who died in infancy and young Faustina who married Marcus Aurelius. Mother Faustina received the title of augusta in 139 and is thus associated with counterfeiting. She died in 141, aged about forty years. Ancient World Coins For Collectors. Weight: 7.3 grams
