A bone-inlaid German matchlock musket, dated 1610
Description: Sturdy, slightly conical, octagonal barrel rifled with sixteen grooves (!) in 18 mm calibre. Iron tunnel sight. Master mark struck twice at the breech, on the barrel top another illegible mark. Matchlock in wheellock design. The rectangular pan with moveable cover and flashguard. Walnut full stock with inlays of engraved and blackened bone. On the sideplate and cheekpiece mascarons, one dated "1610". On the butt stock a shield with snake and monogram "PD" on trophy bundle. Replacements at the end of the butt stock, the forestock and the left of the barrel root, partially restored worming. Iron trigger guard. Wooden ramrod with engraved bone tip. Length 156 cm. An unusual, rare musket with rifled barrel.
