Ancient Near East, Sumer, ca. 3rd to 2nd millennium BCE; Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A charming necklace of a wearable form composed from dozens of strung Sumerian faience and shell beads as well as dozens more Roman pottery and bone beads. The drop-form bone beads are interspersed between petite faience beads, perforated mollusk shell beads, and thick pottery beads, and the central pottery pendant displays a faint orange-red hue. Strung in modern times and capped with a gold-filled loop and lobster clasp combo, this is an attractive example of ancient art meets modern fashion! Minor nicks and abrasions to some beads, with stable hairline fissures to some bone beads, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits on some beads.
