Ancient Near East, Sumer, ca. 3rd to 2nd millennium BCE; Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A charming necklace of a wearable form composed from dozens of strung Sumerian faience and shell beads as well as dozens more Roman pottery and bone beads. The drop-form bone beads are interspersed between petite faience beads, perforated mollusk shell beads, and thick pottery beads, and the central pottery pendant displays a faint orange-red hue. Strung in modern times and capped with a gold-filled loop and lobster clasp combo, this is an attractive example of ancient art meets modern fashion! Size (necklace): 28" L (71.1 cm); (central pendant): 1.5" W (3.8 cm)
