Magnificent Coral Sculpture - Red Coral - Mid 20th century
Dark red coral sculpture depicting man with hat, with stone base. The work dates back to the mid-20th century and was made in Southern Italy, probably in Torre del Greco or Sicily. Coral is one of humanity's oldest precious stones, considering that coral jewels have been found in Celtic tombs dating back to the Iron Age. Coral is also precious because it is now quite rare to find because of water pollution; it has a slow growth and its colonies grow on average between 0. 25 and 0. 66 mm in basal diameter over a year. Finely carved; I assure you that it is natural coral. Height 17 cm (including base) Gross weight: 390 g. Perfect condition Tracked and insured shipping
