A Jain cosmographical painting of the world of mortals, (madhyaloka), Western India, 18th century, gouache on cloth, the world depicted in concentric regions divided by rivers, with Mount Meru in the centre, the rivers inhabited by aquatic animals, text annotations, glazed and framed, textile panel 90 x 92cm. Provenance: Property of the late Victor Aubrey Lownes III (April 17, 1928 - January 11, 2017).
